About
Karen Sams joined Lorenzo Law Group in May 2025. She became part of the Lorenzo Law team after practicing immigration law at a small firm in the Washington, D.C. area. Her practice focuses on removal defense and representing clients in court. Karen has experience defending clients seeking immigration relief such as asylum, bond, and cancellation of removal before Immigration Courts in Maryland and Virginia. She has also represented clients before the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in applications for adjustment of status, citizenship, and humanitarian visas such as U visas and relief under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
Before focusing her practice on immigration law, Karen gained extensive trial experience representing Maryland residents as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Baltimore City and Harford County, where she prosecuted misdemeanor and traffic cases in Maryland’s District and Circuit Courts. She also served for two years as a federal judicial law clerk at the United States District Court for the Virgin Islands in St. Thomas.
Karen earned her Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from American University Washington College of Law and is a member of the Maryland State Bar. During law school, she worked as a student attorney in the Immigrant Justice Clinic and interned with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Immigration Litigation. She holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Piano Performance from Oberlin College and Conservatory, as well as a master’s degree in Piano Performance from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University.
When she is not representing clients, Karen enjoys spending time at the lake or park with her two dogs, gardening, and making music with friends.
